 Every month, I give my team: the Chinook Stampers, a different challenge. I try to find ways to engage them and help their business at the same time. In July, I decided to give them a creative challenge. I prepare small kits with a number of pieces and asked them all to create a card using these pieces. It was so much fun to see everyone's styles and creation. I really enjoyed seeing how unique each card was, even though we used some of the same items. The elements I included in the kits were: White Baker's Twine, The Stitched Square Die Cut, The strip of Wood Texture DSP, the Soft Suede punched label, and the Corrugated Element Oval Tag. This here is my card made with these elements. I chose to pair it with the Nature's Poem suite.  I am in love with the Nature's Poem suite! Look at those gorgeous colours, those soft natural images, and those amazing patterns! It is exactly my style and I was SO excited when I saw it. I just had to order the whole suite. (See it on p.142-144 of the Annual Catalogue) The suite includes: a double stamp set (10 images + 6 sentiments), coordinating Framelit Dies, 4 colour Twine pack, Silver and Copper metallic leaf trinkets, Cardstock Pack, and the Designer Series Paper. Shop the products  here.    I decided to make a whole stack of cards with the suite, using two basic designs. It is so easy to mix and match products and colours from the suite, that I was able to create several cards very easily. I chose to work with 4 different coulours (Tranquil Tide, Cajun Craze, Grapefruit Grove, Soft Suede) but there are so many other beautiful colours in this suite! Do you know what "cluster cards" are? It's a style where you put several stamps and die cut pieces around a central point (usually the sentiment), and it forms a cluster. It's a style I have found I love to make. This card is a good example of that. I have stamped, die cut or fussy cut several pieces and adhered them around the sentiment. There is also a piece of DSP across the card base, with some tone on tone stamping peeking out from under it. To add interest and depth, some pieces are adhere directly to the card, some are popped up with dimensionals. Some pieces are partly hidden under the circle and some are in front. Because this type of card can quickly become too busy, I made sure to leave a big blank space at the bottom; which created a big colour block with the cardbase. When you first discover the world of scrapbook and cardmaking, your first thought is probably, "Where was this all my life?" But also, "Where do I start?" I'll admit, it can be a little overwhelming, and you feel like you need to get SO MANY things before you can even make a card. And then, you are still not sure how to go about creating a card. I get it, I've been there. This is why I decided to offer a class for beginners a few weeks ago, where I would focus on some card basics.  This is one of two cards we made that night. At first glance, you  might think that this card doesn't look so simple, because there are a lot of pieces on it, but the secret is in the coordination. Stampin' Up! is really the champion of coordinating products, and all the products you see on this card are part of the same product suite Coffee Break. Making a card shouldn't always be complicated! Actually, I would say that my cards are usually the sweet & simple type, but that one goes beyond. In fact, I was just playing around with this paper (Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper) and I found a couple of scraps, left over from previous projects. I prepared a card base (I used Crushed Curry), stamped a sentiment form the coordinating stamp set (Emerald Envy), I punched it and added everything to the card. The more "advanced" part is the little bear that I added on top. I coloured him lightly with the AquaPainter (Sahara Sand) and fussy cut around the lines. I adhered all the pieces at an angle, making a cluster around the sentiment, and voila! I didn't even have to measure anything, and I just picked the colours that were featured on the DSP, so no guesswork there either. Coordinating products makes crafting SO easy, don't you think? On November 8, I attended OnStage in Red Deer. OnStage is a bi-yearly gathering for demonstrators only, where we get to see new catalogues, play with and purchase some of the new products, as well as receive training, inspiring presentations, and get the latest news on our business. Imagine being in a room with hundreds of people who LOVE the same thing you do! The energy is quite vibrant!   Le 8 novembre dernier, j'ai assisté à OnStage à Red Deer. En mars de cette année, mon mari et moi avons fêté notre 5e anniversaire de mariage. C'est incroyable de penser que ça fait déjà 5 ans! Nous avons déjà vécu de belles aventures et, définitevement, la venu de nos deux petis Monkeys est ce qui a changé et enrichie le plus nos vies! Une carte de fête super festive, ça vous dit? Le papier design Picture Perfect Party est vraiment parfait pour des projets pleins de vie et qui ont du punch en quelques minutes seulement.  J'adore les couleurs très vives (voir même un peu criardes) de cette carte. Les éléments qui les entourent restent très simples pour leur laisser toute la place, justement.  What do you think of a super festive birthday card? The Picture Perfect Party is really perfect for projects that are full of life and punch, and only take 2 minutes to make. I love the very bold (almost screaming) colours of this card.
